Gateway into the Community supports people aged 14 years and over with a learning disability to access social, leisure and learning opportunities within their own communities. Our aim is to ensure our members have the same life chances and choices as their peers and gain increased independence to reach their full potential and feel valued members of society. We run social groups, courses and activities, as well as signposting people to opportunities in the local area. We also provide an Individual Support Service and Day Service.   The services that we offer from adolescence to old age mean our young members enjoy long-term continuity of service with support and access to a range of life-improving activities all within one organisation.

Why the community needs us
People with learning disabilities easily become socially isolated and discouraged unless they find a network of friends and contacts. Through Gateway into the Community members are able to meet new friends in a supportive and safe environment. We are also a registered ASDAN centre which allows us to provide educational opportunities for our members which can help to build self- esteem as well as lead to employment.

Our impact on the community
People with learning disabilities in West Northumberland will be more self-reliant and will make life choices with more confidence. This is done through the social, leisure and learning opportunities that our members are able to access through Gateway into the Community. This will also affect their self-confidence which may enable them to find employment or a volunteering opportunity.
