b-side is an arts organisation and festival creating ambitious contemporary art with artists, communities, and audiences on the Isle of Portland.
b-side is an arts organisation and festival based on the Isle of Portland in Dorset. For more than 15 years, we have brought artists, communities and audiences together to make and experience ambitious contemporary art in unexpected places.
We believe everyone should have access to great art and creative opportunities, wherever they live. Our annual festival and year-round programme create opportunities for people to take part, make, learn, meet others and shape the cultural life of Portland.
b-side is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation and the only one based on Portland and Weymouth. We are also a Community Interest Company, committed to creating lasting social and cultural benefit for our communities.
In 2024, we opened bnb-side, our six-bedroom creative accommodation and project space at 77 Fortuneswell. It provides a place for artists and creative practitioners to stay, work and develop projects on Portland, while also providing space for community activity.
Since opening, bnb-side has supported b-side’s festival and year-round programme, providing space for artists, community groups and young people to create, meet, develop skills and explore careers in the arts.
Now we have the opportunity to buy the building and secure b-side’s long-term home on Portland.
Buying bnb-side will protect an important creative space for artists and communities, give b-side greater financial security and allow us to continue investing in our programme and the island.
Our work has reached thousands of people. In 2025, Rediscovering High Angle Battery brought 3,715 additional visitors to the heritage site, working with 32 artists and 51 volunteers. Our 2025 Towns of Culture programme reached over 21,000 people, bringing together 28 partners and reaching more than 5,200 people over its opening weekend.
