Bayguide's purpose is to promote the Kentish seaside town of Herne Bay. We raise money from grants and sponsors and organise festivals and events to bring more visitors to our town. Bayguide has now delivered three festivals in Herne Bay, and each year we have added more exhibitions and workshops and attracted more visitors. Our cartoon festival is now firmly established as part of Herne Bay's fantastic summer programme and we aim to keep it this way. We are already planning next year's event.
Why the community needs usWe work with young people and volunteers to support them in learning new skills which may help them to secure paid employment. This August we announced the Martin Honeysett Young Cartoonist prize in memory of a much loved cartoonist. The winning entries will be exhibited in a professional gallery during next year's festival. We work closely with other community groups and all the events we deliver are free, open to everyone and fully accessible.
Our impact on the communityHaving successfully delivered the award winning Marcel Duchamp in Herne Bay festival in 2013 and established a legacy through the annual cartoon festival, we are now developing new projects. These include the creation of a kinetic sculpture trail along the coast between Hampton and Reculver, a cartoon trail within Herne Bay and the publication of papers delivered at our international symposium. We are also redesigning our website to include new features and visitor information.
