A local charity working with young people who find themselves in seemingly impossible situtions.
Our services help young people develop the confidence and skills to find solutions that are right for them- whether it's getting back into school or training, choosing to stay out of trouble, finding a safe place to live or helping them to live independently after leaving care or custody. As young people become more positive, productive and independent, the whole community benefits. We believe every young person deserves the chance to get on in life. No matter what.
Why the community needs usWe provide services to local authorities, voluntary and community organisations and to the national government. These range from mentoring services and youth activities to education and training, from family support and leaving care to substance misuse and advisory services and from youth justice to community activities. All our services have one thing in common - they support young people and others who have tough lives and are facing difficult situations.
Our impact on the communityIn 2010/11 we supported 31,716 people and worked with over 2,300 families in 150 towns and cities across England and Wales and helped to turn their lives around. 9 out of 10 young people that we helped with housing became settled in their own accommodation after six months. 8 out of 10 young people said that with our help they found new goals and ambitions. 9 out of 10 young people who had been involved in crime didn't re-offend while on our programmes.
In 2010/11, our volunteers gave around 60,000 hours of their time to support our projects and services around the country. Some of them mentored individuals or organised group activities, others helped out with admin or shared specialist skills. All of them were supported by their project to work with our young people and adults and to meet their own goals too, such as gaining new skills or experiences, meeting new people or just giving back.
