Never Hungry Again...
2020 has been a shocking year for so many and for us in Calderdale it is no different. We started the year with the devastating floods in early February and then near the end of March, we had the coronavirus pandemic and the full lockdown of the UK. The Coronavirus has claimed many lives and had a devastating impact on many more. Weddings were cancelled, funerals of loved ones had to be watched on line, students missed out on further education and children and young people missed several months of schooling. I could go on... With winter just around the corner the Community Foundation for Calderdale (CFFC) will continue to ensure that the frail, the vulnerable and elderly are supported through the amazing charities and volunteers in Calderdale. But there is a growing need to support struggling families and we need your help and generosity... In July we teamed up with Calderdale Council to support families during the summer holidays and we and other partners will continue to support this activity locally. Our longer term ambition is to ensure that children are 'Never hungry again..', but for now, for Christmas and the school holidays in 2021 we are inviting/encouraging the generous people of Calderdale to get behind our campaign to raise vital monies for the Holiday Hunger Fund to support struggling families. Why is the Holiday Hunger Fund needed?: Disadvantaged families have the benefit of free school meals during term time but NOT during school holidays so Calderdale Council and Community Foundation for Calderdale are working together with partners to support families on low budgets who struggle to feed their children adequately. Together we can make a real and lasting difference. From October 27th to 9.59am on November 3rd any individual donation up to £75 will be match funded i.e. doubled to £150 and put into the Holiday Hunger Fund to be distributed to families who need the extra support. And between 10am November 3rd and 12noon on December 9th donations up to £5,000 will be matched £ for £. Please give generously Steve Duncan DL, CEO
