At Christian TEFL we train people to teach English and support them as they reach out with classes to refugees and asylum seekers so that these vulnerable communities can integrate more successfully into UK life.
This support enables refugees to find and access local services, enjoy better employment and training prospects and improve their mental health. Most importantly, we want second language communities to feel cared for, connected, and succeed as part of our society.

Many refugees and asylum seekers coming to the UK have minimal support to help them to learn English. Yet, English classes are also often the gateway for them to meet important needs, like finding a GP, opening a bank account, or simply going to the cafe and participating in everyday life here.

Founded in 2012, we are a small UK charity, based in Exeter, running training courses across the UK.

What we do...

We train and equip people to deliver English classes online and in person. We've been providing extra support during the pandemic to help churches and groups like Refugee Support Devon find innovative ways to connect online with their local English learners. Now, as we move back into the classroom, we are looking to expand our support to groups who wish to reach out to Ukrainians, Afghans and other refugees coming to the UK.

Could you help us to help the marginalised?

Your donation will help us offer groups seeking to teach English to their local communities, and families hosting Ukrainian refugees. This gives them the opportunity to train to teach them English and enables us to support them with materials for teaching, so they are properly equipped to help these communities at this difficult time.

For every donation we receive, we will send you a free copy of our Teaching English in Church (paperback), with stories of how churches are supporting refugee and asylum seekers around the country, or 20 free PDF Online English ready-to-use lessons, so you can get a flavour of what happens in the English language classroom, and perhaps try it for yourself.

Thanks so much for your support!
