Our main purposes are to save food waste and feed hungry people with that food.
We run a free foodbank on Saturdays and offer free food on Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes (typically hot food, sandwiches, crisps, fruit, veg and cakes) We also send family care packages to schools upon request, donate bread, fruit and veg to 8 schools, we provide The Parish Church of the Transfiguration food for their foodbank service on Tuesdays, donate more than once a week to Clophill Hub Community Fridge, donate bread to the Impakt Larder and send ready to eat foods to hostels (Reactiv8 and Impakt Housing) and support our emergency services in this way too. We feed the homeless and those in need on a Saturday with the food waste that we save and other goods which are donated. We have been ranked 20 / 5000 organisations in the UK, by Fareshare from 18 March 2019 to July 9th 2020 and have achieved the following:
Collected 35.305 tonnes of food from Tesco and Waitrose alone (these figures don't include ASDA, FareShare Midlands/South food, Co Ops, Aldi, Lidls, Nandos, Costas, Greggs, Budgens). In real terms, this means our volunteers have made 984 store collections in that time (from Tesco and Waitrose alone). There have been 16.836 tonnes of bakery items, 0.85 tonnes of eggs; 16.781 tonnes of fruit and vegetables; 1.292 tonnes of grocery items; and 0.72 tonnes of non-food items. This equals 84,061 nutritious meals (1 tonne of food is the equivalent of 2,381 nutritious meals). Those that come to us are typically families living in food poverty, those who struggle to feed their children, the elderly, the sick and the homeless. We operate out of Bedford but also support organisations and charities in Market Harborough.
