Lads Need Dads Mission is:
“ To equip, engage and inspire boys and young men aged 10-18 with absent fathers or limited access to a positive male role model, to enable them to reach their full potential.”
“To provide support, guidance and training to mothers and carers raising boys alone.”
“To raise awareness and understanding of the important role fathers play in the emotional, mental and educational development and well-being of boys.”
Why the community needs us
Numerous statistics document the fact that fatherless boys are far more likely to drop out of school, abuse alcohol and / or drugs, join gangs or go to prison than boys with fathers. A father's absence is linked to aggression, anti-social behaviour and low self-esteem. According to the Centre for Social Justice, for children growing up in some of the poorest parts of the country, men are rarely encountered in the home or in the classroom. This is an ignored form of deprivation.
Our impact on the community
The outcomes that we aim to achieve are: - increased school attendance and academic engagement - Reduction in disruptive behaviour / anger - Raised self-esteem and increased emotional resilience - Increased confidence and motivation - Reduced risk of offending - Reduction in school exclusion figures. Lads Need Dads is managed by a team of highly experienced Directors who have a background in Education, Criminal Justice, and Health and Social Care.
