We work within the community running arts groups, events and performances to connect and support.
Livestock is a performing and visual arts production company with charitable aims. We run projects that engage groups within the community on issues of mental health, psychology and well being. Our main project is Mothers Uncovered, which gives participants a chance to explore their feelings and experiences in a safe, structured environment. Our activities aid mothers' mental health by offering an outlet for their experiences. Our work is based largely in Brighton and Hove. Why the community needs us
Here is what some of our participants have said: 'A truly valuable experience which pulled me from the brink of post-natal depression. Considerate and understanding facilitators' (Participant 2014); 'There isn't enough support for new mums. Just felt vital to take stock of my experiences and understand what other mothers are going through - fantastic not to feel so alone in this' (Your Stories Participant, 2010). 'A group properly for the mother is essential for her sanity & well-being' (2012)Our impact on the community
Mothers Uncovered fills the gap between informal mum and baby groups and the medical scrutiny and social stigma of PND groups. The supportive atmosphere engendered builds a strong sense of community. We show that women's post-natal mental health is as important as antenatal physical health. Maggie Gordon-Walker wrote an article recently about this gap in provision, http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jul/08/health-system-failing-new-mothers-postnatal-depression-nhs.
We would like part-time volunteers to help at events, any who have skills with fund-raising, tax matters and any willing to transcribe interviews
