Read Easy Southampton were established in 2021 and we belong to the national charity Read Easy UK. All of our management team and coaches are volunteers giving their time and skills for free. This year we have started our service on the Isle of Wight and our change of name now reflects this.
We provide free, confidential one to one coaching for adults who wish to learn to read or want help to improve their reading skills. Those receiving coaching are called Readers and are matched with their own personal coach. A Reader and Coach meet twice a week in a safe space such as a library, but care is taken to ensure they have privacy. The emphasis is on building a relationship of trust and making sure the learning process is both flexible and fun. The response to our scheme has been extremely positive with many adults coming forward to seek help. We have also established good connections with organisations who can refer people to our service.
Every Read Easy group must raise their own funds to pay for coach training, reading materials and coaching manuals. We therefore need to regularly raise funds throughout the year. If you wish to donate to help us continue with our work please use the donation buttons provided. All contributions are most gratefully received.
