Help Us Save the River Mole — Your Donation Can Make It Happen!

Your support will fund essential equipment, volunteer training, and outreach to help safeguard the River Mole for future generations. Please donate today. We are committed to doing all we can to restore the River Mole to a thriving ecological state—for the benefit of wildlife, plants, and people.

Flowing 80 kilometres (50 miles) from Sussex to the Thames, the river is a treasured part of the local landscape, enjoyed by communities for recreation and nature.

But the River Mole faces serious challenges. It reacts strongly to rainfall, causing winter flooding and summer droughts, sometimes running dry. Eleven sewage treatment works discharge into it, and in 2024, storm overflows released untreated sewage for over 13,000 hours. Pollution from roads, agriculture, domestic misconnections, and pet flea treatment further harm water quality, especially in summer.

Our core work is a comprehensive water quality testing programme across the entire river and tributaries. Over fifty volunteer citizen scientists collect monthly samples from more than thirty sites in the catchment. Results are analysed and published online to raise awareness and ensure accountability.

We use this data to lobby politicians, government bodies, and organisations to improve water quality and strengthen river protections. We also engage residents, landowners, farmers, businesses, water companies, and local groups to tackle pollution at its source.

Through outreach, we raise public awareness about the river’s challenges, solutions, and its beauty. We give talks to schools and local groups and share information via media and social media.

The Mole is a vital wildlife corridor, home to many plants, animals, invertebrates, and fish.

Together, we can protect and restore this precious river. Please donate now and be part of the change!
