Room 13 Hareclive is an independent artists' studio run by and for children, based in the playground of Hareclive Primary school. Children come here to draw, paint, sculpt, work on computers, research, read, write, make films, talk, collaborate, have ideas and work on their own creative projects, facilitated by a professional artist educator. A young Management Team runs the studio and works with adults and visiting professionals to develop Room 13 as a social enterprise and beacon project. Our host school contributes 20% of our funding. We have to raise the remaining 80% ourselves every year, around £50,000.

Why the community needs us
Room 13 Hareclive works in great depth with children in Hartcliffe, an estate in south Bristol. We have a proven positive impact on their lives and learning. Our approach also raises important questions for society about children's potential: how do we value their art, voices, ideas? How do they best learn? What are they capable of with the right opportunities and support? We share our approach with visitors from around the world, and through conference talks, training and other channels.

Our impact on the community
Our studio is currently open 3 days a week. We carry out over 6000 child sessions a year. Around 300 Hareclive children use Room 13 during this time. Independent research shows we have a proven positive impact on children's lives and learning, including on team and work skills for life, creativity, independent thinking, responsibility, confidence and aspirations. "Many children's lives will be completely different because of Room." We share our approach with others within the Arts/Education.
