We are a Parents and Teachers Association which raises funds for our school.

We are a Parents and Teachers Association which raises funds for our school: St Andrews Major C/W Primary School in Dinas Powys, in the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales.

Why the community needs us
We support the school by raising additional funds them and for fun things for our children's education.

This school year (Sept 2023/July 24) we are working with the school to to support the outdoor learning provision in the Infants area, replacing equipment with quality replacements where possible. We are also hoping to be able to fund markings in the junior playground for sports .
Some of our past fundraising includes:

In 2021/22 we funded the Great Outdoors project. We bought bug, bat and bird boxes and helped the kids made them and install them in the school. We bought outdoor learning equipment including a new log circle for The Emerald Forest, a bug hotel and two planters / seats for the Junior Playground. We filled these with plants and bulbs on a community Autumn Planting Day on 1st October 2022, and we look forward to the bulbs flowering in the spring. We also ran a Food Hub project, distributing 134 food parcels to families within the school community to help with the rising cost of living. Each year we also fund the Year 6 leavers hoodies too.

In the 2020/21 school year we raised funds for outdoor learning, and ran a Healthy Hearts Campaign for a defibrilator, CPR training and a skipping workshop and equipment. This arrived in Autumn 2021.

In the 2019/20 school year, we raised funds for the new Year 1 and Year 2 Fab Lab and new outdoor play equipment for Nursery and Reception via our Little Wellies Go Wild! campaign. This meant we could get additional outdoor learning equipment (with match funding the school secured) for new welly racks and other items.

In 2018/19's school year we raised funds to buy additional ipads for the school which support online learning and are a valuable teaching resource.

Our impact on the community
The school community includes around 220 pupils, their families, and extended families in and around the village of Dinas Powys. We hope to raise educational outcomes by support the staff at the school. We also promote environmental and other wellbeing outcomes by supporting other projects in school such as fundraising for the outdoor green spaces, gardening activities, activities to get pupils active, recycling activities and much more.

Volunteers needed

Parents and carers of pupils attending the school are welcome to join the PTA, as occasional volunteers to help with events or to support the work and running of the PTA Committee. We are particularly seeking a new Treasurer and Co-Chair and general trustees to support our charity to continue and be sustainable for the future. Anyone with graphic design skills who can help with our newsletters, and anyone with an idea for a fundraising event and the time to organise and run it, would be very welcome! Finally if you can fundraise for us by doing a personal challenge or have an employer who can match fund your donation, that would be brilliant. Thanks!
