Sunflowers Wales is a non-profit community group established by Ukrainian volunteers in Wales in May 2022 to support those impacted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Our members have been actively involved in organizing fundraising events and regular shipments of humanitarian aid and medical supplies to Ukraine since 2014. Currently, we send them every other week. We work only with trusted volunteers in Ukraine who promptly forward the shipments to hospitals, medics close to the frontline, displaced people centres etc. For our regular reports of the shipments, see https://sunflowerswales.org.uk/shipments/.
Since April 2022, a significant focus of our efforts has been to provide support to Ukrainian refugees in Wales. Our aim is to create a supportive community for these individuals and assist in their integration into Welsh society while preserving their cultural heritage. We also serve as a liaison between Ukrainian refugees and Welsh organizations. We are committed to promoting cultural exchange and providing emotional support through social (https://sunflowerswales.org.uk/events/) and charitable (https://sunflowerswales.org.uk/fundraising/) events.
We celebrated International Children's Day and Ukrainian Independence Day in Swansea, hosted "Taste of Ukraine" events in Llandeilo and Llanelli, and organized children's Halloween and Christmas parties and visits to local attractions. We encourage community involvement by organizing Ukrainians to participate in litter pickings, cleaning activities, art classes for children, and the Croeso festival. Our members actively participate in meetings with Ukrainian refugees and their hosts at churches in Llanelli and Swansea. We collect and distribute clothing and other donations to those in need.
