In the UK, refugees face substantial economic hardship, including restrictions on working and very little financial support. Whilst awaiting asylum decisions, some refugees survive on as little as £9.95 per week and 84% have been forced to choose between accessing transport and basic needs like food, healthcare and legal advice. This exacerbates mental and physical ill-health, with lasting effects long after resettlement.

Since 2013, The Bike Project has been providing refugees facing destitution and hardship with professionally refurbished bicycles in order to access essential services. We also provide training to cycle with confidence and facilitate greater social inclusion through our Pedal Power and Bike Buddies community programmes.
