For over 20 years, Viva has focused on cultural outreach, multi-generational theatre, arts engagement, and heritage projects. It’s a place for creativity, inclusivity, and great entertainment, offering opportunities for the local community to participate, learn, and enjoy.

Viva supports people of all ages and abilities across Cambridgeshire, with a strong focus on young people and those facing barriers to access, including isolation and disability. As a grassroots charity, Viva works to improve quality of life, well-being, and community spirit. It also offers education and training, boosting the confidence and prospects of young people.

Founded in 1997 by Daniel Schumann, Viva began as a small youth theatre and has grown significantly, now staging around 10 productions annually, with members ranging from 5 to 85 years old. Viva became a registered charity in 2008 and earned the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2010. Over the years, it has performed at prestigious venues like Ely Cathedral and the ADC Theatre and has received numerous National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) awards.

In 2008, Viva bought its first premises in Soham, where it established a charity shop, after-school clubs, and arts training programs. In 2018, Viva purchased Spencer Mill, embarking on a restoration project to create a permanent home for the charity. The Viva Theatre opened in 2022 after raising £4 million, with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh officially opening the venue in 2023.

The Viva Theatre offers live entertainment, wellbeing programs, educational opportunities, and a thriving Youth Theatre School. Viva’s deep roots in the community continue to drive its growth and success.
