We work with around 1,200 women, their families, and girls each year in and around Leeds. These women and girls are most at risk including those experiencing domestic violence, sexual or emotional abuse, those with children in care or at risk, women seeking asylum, and those with complex or mental health needs.
At the heart of the approach is a woman-centred, holistic model that creates a safe, nurturing environment. Through group work, peer support, and one-to-one sessions, women are supported to rebuild confidence, explore their needs, and regain control over their lives. The organisation’s broad health focus allows women to speak about abuse safely, without stigma or fear.
Women’s Health Matters also extends its reach through outreach work, engaging women who may struggle to access statutory services. This inclusive approach ensures that women from all backgrounds can access meaningful support, including those facing barriers related to ethnicity, disability, sexuality, or income.
As a charity run by women, for women, we recognise that women are the experts in their own lives. We help women move beyond abuse and trauma in a way that is non-stigmatising, collaborative, and empowering.
100% of the women and girls we support said they felt satisfied with the support they have received from Women's Health Matters, with 97% having increased confidence, 94% feeling more positive about their future, and 98% feeling better able to respond to abusive relationships.
"Thanks to WHM I feel a lot better. I’ve left the person who mistreated me… I’m a lot more confident. I’ve got my fire back.”
