The Eastern Green Link (EGL2) Yorkshire Local Community Fund is currently closed for applications. This fund is operated by National Grid Electricity Transmission. 

NB - feedback on EGL2 is now actively being sought and there are a number of Public Information Events scheduled for April and May 2026, please see the bottom of this page for more details. 

Through this fund, National Grid aim to deliver meaningful and lasting benefits for the people and places hosting the EGL2 Project. The fund has been created by working closely with charitable organisations and community members to make sure it meets local needs.

Who can apply and how?

Organisations of the following types intending to deliver work into the area where National Grid is carrying out construction as part of the EGL2 project can make an application to the fund (you can check location eligibility here):

  • Registered Charities 
  • Registered non-profit Companies Limited by Guarantee 
  • Community Benefit/Mutual Societies that do not operate for profit or habitual payment of dividends 
  • Parish/town councils applying for support with non-statutory projects 
  • Parent Teacher Associations or “Friends of” organisations associated with schools 
  • Other constituted non-profit organisations operating for wider community benefit 

What are we looking for ?

We are looking for positive and impactful projects in the area hosting the EGL2 project, which support one or more of the following themes:   

  • Providing education and Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) opportunities 
  • Protecting the environment and ensuring access to green spaces  
  • Improving community spaces and saving energy 
  • Helping with the cost of living and supporting employability  
  • Encouraging physical health and activity  
  • Supporting mental health and wellbeing  

While all eligible organisations are welcome to apply under the fund’s main themes we particularly encourage projects that reflect the priorities listed in this guide.

Grants of between £5,000 and £20,000 are available. 

The latest round of this Fund closed on 5pm on Friday 27th March. The next application window opens in May 2026.

We need your views on our EGL2 Regional Fund in Yorkshire  

Public information events are being held in April and May where you can learn more about developing fund, the live EGL2 Yorkshire Local Community Fund, and ongoing construction activities.

Responses will be accepted between Wednesday 8 April 2026 and Friday 27 May 2026.

Regional Fund in Yorkshire

We know our role goes beyond building new energy infrastructure safely and reliably. We want to leave a positive, long-term legacy in the areas where we’re working, helping communities thrive and support a more secure energy future.

Our fund will deliver lasting social, environmental and economic benefits across the Yorkshire region. We are inviting you to join us at public information events across Yorkshire throughout late April and early May, where our team will be available to answer questions about community funding and construction.
