This October, Nirmal, Harinder, Steve, Anjul and Mickey will begin a 12-day, 130km journey to Everest Base Camp, facing freezing temperatures and altitudes of more than 5,500 metres. Their challenge has one purpose: to raise vital funds for Food Aid and Winter Wellbeing Cafés for the people who depend on us.
Each week, more than 400 children, individuals and families turn to us for food, warmth, connection and practical support. Demand is rising while local funding cuts are putting pressure on these services. Our building also needs better heating, ventilation, blinds and air conditioning so it can remain safe, comfortable and welcoming throughout the year.
We hope to raise £15,000. All donations, less standard platform costs, will stay local. The trekkers are covering their own travel and expedition costs, meaning supporters can give with confidence that their contribution will go directly towards our community work.
£7,500 will keep shelves stocked, support hot meals and help Food Aid and the Wellbeing Cafés continue through difficult times. The remaining £7,500 will improve the building itself, helping our rooms stay usable in summer and creating a warmer, safer environment in winter for our service users. These improvements will also protect room-hire income that helps sustain Food Aid long term and contribute towards a comfortable community kitchen environment.
Harinder and Nirmal, trustees of Siri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara Northampton, see the queues every week and understand the urgency behind this appeal. They see people turning to us because they have nowhere else to go.
Please donate whatever you can. Every gift will help keep food on tables, keep people warm and ensure we can continue standing beside the community when it is needed most.
