Armley Helping Hands has had a very challenging two months, and we have to move from our community home (base) of 30 years.  Leeds City Council Asset management will be closing Strawberry Lane Community Centre from 1st December 2025. This proposal has been made due to the building current running cost are very high and the building require substantial maintenance and upgrading which in the present local government financial climate is not viable.

This transition is coming at a significant cost to Armley helping hands with a projected moving and renovation cost of £35K and a projected rental cost in year one of approx. £10k to £15k.

This was not allocated in our projected 3-year expenditure forecast and due to the significant turnaround (2 Months for discussion and 6 weeks to do renovation) We do not have the timescale to process application to external funders to support the cost for the renovation work as we need the facility up and running in five weeks from Lease agreement date.

We are reaching out to our community to support us in this challenging time. Every little penny will enable us to make this transition as smoothly as possible and make our new location a welcoming place that meet the needs of our older people and the wider community.

We remain committed to serving our community and look forward to continuing to deliver vital services, activities and intervention to our older people, families and people living in Armley and Wortley District of Leeds 12.
