Dementia is the biggest killer in the UK. One in three people born today will develop it and it’s our biggest health and social care crisis. But most people don’t really understand it or fully appreciate its impact on those living with dementia and those who care for them. With this knowledge more people will get an early diagnosis and more people will be supported.
That’s why we’ve developed a unique theatrical production called Navigating Margaret. Based on real-life stories gathered at our workshops, the play follows the journey of a Worcestershire woman living with Alzheimer’s dementia. Written by acclaimed writer/director Helen Tennison, Navigating Margaret is not just a performance - it's an experience that sparks conversations, breaks down barriers, and inspires action.
We’ve successfully staged the play twice so far. The most recent productions were followed by a free training session that provides a practical introduction to dementia, dementia care and prevention and we are building on this by also offering arts workshops for people living with dementia.
The response from everyone who’s seen it and taken part has been outstanding. Comments included:
“It was exceptional – everyone should see it. I laughed and cried. The humility and tender representation was mind-blowing.”
“Wonderful. Magical. Informative. Helps dispel the fear & concern around dementia”
We want to take Navigating Margaret on tour across the West Midlands so that more people can benefit from this crucial learning experience. To make this happen, we need your support.
We are aiming to raise £36,520, which will ensure the play is accessible to diverse audiences, cover production costs, venue hire, travel costs for the cast and crew, and publicity.
Your kind donation will help bring Navigating Margaret’s message of hope and understanding to even more communities. Please give whatever you can.
