Hi, my name is Niall Quinn. On Saturday 24th October, I'm running 80km from Bondi to Manly in Sydney, and I'm doing it to raise money for The Well Hub in Kilkeel, which is in my local town, back home.
The Well Hub is a mental health charity that gives people in our community somewhere to turn when things get hard. When local people couldnt get the mental health and suicide prevention support they needed, the Kilkeel community didnt wait. They built the place themselves. Today it offers crisis support, therapeutic support, training, and The Well Kids, a weekly space for young people to talk and build confidence. Theyve supported people right when it mattered most.
Ive been through my own struggles and Ive seen people close to me go through theirs. That's why it feels important to give back to a charity that is making a real, positive difference in the community.
Somewhere around km 50, in 25-30 degree heat, with a lot of hills behind me and more ahead, its going to get tough in my head as well as my legs. I'll have the finish line to aim for. Many people struggling with their mental health dont and thats why The Well, is there for them.
My goal is £2,000, it would be fantastic to get as close as possible to this. Every donation, big or small, helps them keep their doors open and keep supporting people locally. If you can spare a few pound, that would be amazing.
The challenge in numbers:
80km Run
1,700m of elevation, to put into perspective, its double the height of Slieve Donard
25-30 degree heat as Sydney heads into summer
Thank you very much for backing me and please share with anyone who might want to help.
Cheers,
Niall
