Local fundraiser Nigel Brookwell is taking on an extraordinary challenge to raise funds for Daffodils Dreams, a Wigan-based children’s charity supporting families in need.

On 28th June, Nige will walk in a vintage deep-sea diving suit from Daffodils Dreams Boutique in Wallgate, Wigan uphill to The Boars Head pub in Standish, stopping at pubs along the way. The full suit, including helmet, boots, and lead weights, weighs over 80kg (176 lbs), with each boot alone weighing 25lbs.

Preparing for this challenge has been no small feat. Nige has been sourcing the vintage diving gear from supporters, including ex-Royal Navy divers, The Historical Diving Society in Portsmouth and diving enthusiasts.

This challenge holds deep personal meaning for Nige, as he recently lost his beloved father in January 25, who was a great inspiration in his life. In tribute, Nige is channelling his grief into this fundraiser to help local children in need, ensuring they receive the support they deserve.

“I hate that kids in Wigan are going hungry and struggling. That’s why this means so much to me,” Nige shared.

With his training underway, Nige is preparing both physically and mentally for this tough endurance test. The community can support him by donating, spreading the word, or cheering him on during his walk. Every bit of encouragement will help make this daring challenge a success and provide vital support to Daffodils Dreams.
