R3 South West & Wales Annual Ball 2026 Charity Appeal for Mothers for Mothers
Mothers for Mothers have been offering maternal mental health and emotional wellbeing support, advice and information to women, birthing people and their families in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire since 1981. 2026 is our 45th anniversary.
Everyone at Mothers for Mothers have a lived experience of depression, anxiety and isolation during pregnancy or after the birth of one or more of our babies, we understand how hard early parenthood can feel and how difficult it can be to ask for help.
Right now around 26% of mothers experience a mental illness during pregnancy or within the first year after birth. This rises to 30% in the most deprived areas of our communities.
However, 70% will hide or underplay their maternal mental health difficulties.
Shockingly suicide is the leading cause of maternal death in the first year after the birth of a child. Many face these challenges in silence due to stigma and shame.
Conditions often develop suddenly and range from mild to extremely severe, requiring different kinds of care or treatment. Their small team provide our peer support groups, helpline and support call service, ante natal support, SEND support, home visiting, and therapy services.
Your donation will help them to continue their vital services. Services which are not only life changing but in some cases lifesaving.
