Some of you may have known Gabriel McBryan. You may know that from birth he endured severe disability and that he did so with incredible grace and joy and you may have been lucky enough to see the famous smile and possibly even heard the breathless laugh.
Gabriel didn’t quite make it to his seventeenth birthday this year. His life was short but rich and one of the enduring joys of his life was creating art and having fun with the staff at Project Ability in Glasgow. This charity provided him with the support and environment to produce the most amazing artworks, and with them an immense sense of achievement.
Project Ability continues to do this every day for people with a wide range of challenges in their life. It gives them a place to go and to have a real sense of self-worth. Money is tight for the charity though and that’s where my other target comes in.
It is a great privilege and honour to cycle in Gabriel’s memory and to help a charity that has helped what I can only describe as the most inspirational family I know. I am looking to raise as much money as I can for Project Ability so that this amazing organisation can live on and continue its great work. If you can, please sponsor me and give me that extra motivation on my journey from London to Paris. Thank you.

I’ll be cycling from London to Paris, with four long days in the saddle and some tough climbs, but the sight of the Eiffel Tower, at the end of it all will make it all worthwhile. As a cycling newbie, I’m absolutely terrified by this challenge, but the thought of Gabe will spur me on.
