Every September, too many children in the borough of Bromley start the new school year without the correct uniform - not by choice, but because their families simply cannot afford it. For some children that means ill-fitting, worn or incorrect uniform. The consequences are real: bullying, isolation, damaged confidence, and children missing school altogether.
"The school uniform really helped in making sure it was one less thing she did not get picked on for." — BBB family
"Honestly. I’m in tears. I didn’t know how I’d get to September at this rate. Thank you so much you have no idea how much it means to me as a mum who feels like she’s failing x." - BBB family
1 in 5 children in Bromley live in poverty (that's 6 in a classroom of 30). Uniform should be a symbol of belonging - something that makes every child feel equal, regardless of what's happening at home. But for too many families, it's just another impossible choice.
What we do
Bromley Brighter Beginnings ensures children across Bromley start the school year properly kitted out and ready to learn. We provide a mix of pre-loved and new primary uniform and - because dignity matters, especially for teenagers - every secondary school child we support receives brand new uniform.
In 2025 we fulfilled 243 uniform referrals. We expect that number to rise in 2026.

We want every child to feel comfortable and happy at school, and wear their uniform with pride and self-confidence.
Donate today and help us make that possible for every child across the borough of Bromley.
