Hi, thank you for making your way to my fundraiser for a very special charity, Street Talk, where I am also a member of the therapy team. I am going to be running 5K a Day in May, to raise money for the essential and unique work of Street Talk. That's 155 km! Or 3.6 marathons, (though definitely not in one go)!
Street Talk works with women who have experienced sexual and/or domestic abuse, who may be victims of trafficking, experiencing homelessness, in contact with the criminal justice system. Many of the women we work with have experienced pregnancy loss or child removal. Many use substances to cope day to day with the experiences they have had, and continue to face. This combination of challenges makes it very difficult for them to access therapy elsewhere, as they require flexibility, consistency, gentleness and very long term support to begin to process the very long-term challenges they've lived with, often from childhood.
"When a woman experiences repeated abuse, her confidence and self-belief are diminished to such an extent that she may believe that she deserves to be hurt, or to lower her expectations of life or her potential.
The therapeutic services which Street Talk offers create positive long-term relationships where a woman can encounter her own humanity and feel entitled to live safely and with dignity."

I am not a runner! But over the past couple of years I have surprised myself - I am now able to run 5k. So I have set myself the challenge to run 5k every day in May!
