You Matter Saddleworth CIC supports the Oldham community with mental health and wellbeing by creating opportunities for people to connect with nature, creativity, practical skills, volunteering and each other.
Our woodland site in Uppermill has already become a welcoming space for children, young people, adults, volunteers, local groups and community partners. However, one thing we do not currently have is a dry, secure and usable indoor space. When the weather turns, sessions can become difficult, and our tools, equipment and resources need safe, organised storage.
We are fundraising to create a converted 40ft woodland workshop and learning space. Half of the container would be used as insulated, dry storage with shelving and racking for tools, Forest School equipment, creative materials and project resources. The other half would become a warm, welcoming classroom and workshop space, with insulation, windows, lighting, sockets and doors that can open out into the woodland.
The outside would be timber clad so it blends into the natural setting, giving us a practical space without taking away the woodland feel that makes the site so special.
This project would help us offer more reliable year-round sessions, support more people safely, protect our equipment, create better opportunities for volunteers and young people, and give the community a proper base for learning, wellbeing and connection.
Every donation, big or small, will help us build a space where people can feel welcome, supported and connected.
