We are fundraising to introduce a new updated mobile app. Most interaction with our members is now by phone or online although we also provide in-person help to ensure that they understand how to manage their finances as well as possible.
Currently, 71% of our members access our services on a mobile, and 25% of our members have been using our basic mobile app (which recently stopped being available to android phones).
A significant number of our members don’t have access to a personal PC. Our members need to be able to access our services on their chosen (or only) digital platform, enabling them to use services on their BCU account easily and more frequently.
With better access to their accounts, members will see an improvement in their financial independence, resilience and confidence to manage money. This will help to improve their mental health and wellbeing and reduce stress and anxiety about money.
78% of members surveyed currently report that BCU helps increase confidence in understanding money management, 88% say BCU helps to pursue personal financial goals, and 72% reported BCU helped them feel less stressed, anxious or depressed about money. 75% reported feeling more financially independent.
A mobile app also allows us to reach a younger demographic of Bedford residents, who are particularly targeted by costly online credit options. By becoming members of BCU, young people are encouraged to become savers as well as being given the opportunity to access fair, affordable credit should they need it and steer them away from high cost lenders and loan sharks.
