Mike & Mike Ride the NC500 for the Next Generation of Cyclists
This June, Mike Smethurst and Mike Huston from Vermont are taking on the North Coast 500 – a demanding 500-mile cycle around the Scottish Highlands. Over 4 to 5 days, they’ll complete the route unsupported, carrying all their own kit and tackling some of the toughest and most remote roads in the UK.
The challenge includes:
Steep climbs like Bealach na Bà, rising to over 2,000 feet
Isolated stretches of road with limited shelter or support
Up to 100 miles a day, often in harsh and unpredictable weather
They’re not just doing it for the personal challenge – they’re riding to raise funds to support the next generation of cyclists across the Liverpool City Region.
The money raised will help us:
Provide bikes to young people who don’t have access to one
Run learn-to-ride sessions and group rides for schools and youth groups
Create safer, more welcoming spaces for children and families to cycle
Every mile they ride is an investment in a healthier, more active future for our communities.
Support their journey and help us inspire more young people to get on a bike and ride.
