The young people have activities in board the bus, if required. There are computer games and strangely enough they are making a return to good old fashioned board games, which is very refreshing. The older groups do not need entertaining, they ask only for a place to chill, feel safe and warm and be able to chat to the friends - oh and a plug socket to charge up their mobile phones! There are facilities for heating food and preparing warm drinks if needed.
Why they need our serviceWe are delighted that the police have now told us that anti-social behaviour is down 60% due to the bus being out one day a week. We need to get the bus out on a Friday night for the older youth, as they do not like mixing with the younger ones who attend on Thursday's. Friday can be a hot-spot time for this age group so we are very aware that this is needed. It would also be our aim to send the bus to another local village for one night a week,to hopefully bring their crime figures down.
Plan and expected resultsTo reduce anti-social behaviour, and vandalism. To have a safer village for all our residents and where all our residents can FEEL safer. To include other local villages who are also suffering from cutbacks in youth services, to use the bus and lower their anti-social behaviour problems. There are no bus services in our villages that allow people to travel after 7pm. The young people cannot therefore travel to facilities. The bus goes to them so giving them somewhere that they can call theirs.
