A while back a charity who helped me through the past two years asked if I would do a skydive to raise money for them. My response was a fairy brisk, "no way". Then I heard the date of the jump - just three days before my 75th birthday. I’m not having a party, or going on a luxury cruise, why don’t I leap from 15,000 feet instead? It just seemed it was meant to be.
Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support have helped me since my operation for Melanoma, on 22 April, 2020, so soon after the start of the first lockdown. ALCS assist anyone with or recovering from cancer, carers, or those in anyway affected by it. Zoom sessions meant I could link with others in a similar position, we had social chats, a writing group, meditation and more.
The combination of diagnosis, lockdown and being fairly new to the area would have made for a lonely, fearful experience. Instead I made friends, received jigsaws and magazines, and when restrictions lifted I attended special Aquafit classes, a course of scar tissue release and massage, and had occasional use of the ALCS beach hut, all for no cost. Laughter replaced tears, I owe them so much. It is an astonishing charity with an inspirational leader and dedicated volunteers. Please donate if you can.
You are one amazing lady xx
