Gul Outdoor Therapy work in the outdoors to improve the mental and physical health of vulnerable people in the UK.
Gul is short for God Unlimited Outdoor Therapy. The charity was conceived by its founder, CEO Dr Celia Grummitt in 2003 after she experienced first-hand the powerful mental health benefits of being outside, particularly with ponies.
Gul began with 2 Shetland ponies, Billy and Jake In 2006, from our office window every morning we see young people and adults arriving to our rural site, Riverside, we know that they are facing incredible barriers in their lives, with physical and mental health challenges, with extreme social and financial challenges and yet our staff welcome them, the sessions they attend build them up, and when they leave at the end of their day they are better equipped to deal with the wider world. At its core Gul exists to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Gul helps all needs and backgrounds and is underpinned by Christian values, particularly that of serving others, hence its name.
