Community Story: Lambeage Hall, Cornwall

"We look forward to many community gatherings and events - local catch ups over food and drinks, film nights, live music and theatre in our genuinely warm space."

Lambeage Hall in Coverack, Cornwall has been able to make its community hall into a very warm and welcoming space having recently completed their 'access for all' project thanks to a 2025 Community Matters Fund (Energy Affordability) grant from National Grid Electricity Distribution with Localgiving as delivery partner.

The community came together in March 2026 to celebrate the reopening of the newly revamped hall. The refurbishment marks the end of a “complex” project to improve accessibility and modernise facilities at the much‑loved venue which has been a part of its community since first opening in 1922.

Helen Macfarlane, Vice Chair of Lambeage Hall, told us more; “Making the hall accessible on the difficult site was much trickier and more expensive than expected leaving the volunteer committee, and the old hall itself jaded with no funds left to upgrade it. This funding from National Grid came at exactly the right time. It’s enabled us to replace old draughty windows with double glazed, fluorescent lights with LED, install more efficient heaters and new curtains. A team of village volunteers were then inspired to redecorate the hall giving it a much-needed face lift.  It is now reopened and welcomed over 400 people in its first week. We look forward to many community gatherings and events - local catch ups over food and drinks, film nights, live music and theatre in our genuinely warm space. Big thank you again to National Grid and Localgiving for the support.”
