Bringing local parents together and supporting one of life's most challenging roles
Our work is aimed at empowering parents from minority ethnic communities by providing information, workshops, advocacy and support activities and services. We work with those who may be socially excluded on the grounds of their ethnic origin, religion, cultural traditions or social and economic position via our community focused network. We develop skills and improve confidence in a host of areas associated with parenting based on our belief that 'it takes a whole comm. unity to raise a child'.
Why the community needs usOur service brings people together from a diverse range of backgrounds and fosters an appreciation of other cultures. We are proud of our flagship service, the weekly Drop in which provides a local space dedicated to parents. Our classes, information and workshops enable parents to improve their skills base, be more informed & equipped to make better choices for them and their families. This has an all round impact on enabling whole families to fulfil their potential.
Our impact on the communityThe Drop In has had: 10 - 15 visits per week, 500 visits per year, over 2500 visits in the last 5 years. We believe in community access to learning and have been running weekly English classes since January 2014. Over 170 local people have attended our classes. 50% of participants have never studied formally before. 90% have reported improved confidence in Speaking & listening skills & feeling more part of the community. Each year, over 40 local families enjoy a LOW COST day out of London
