Changing Lives Malawi - working with partners in rural northern Malawi to change lives through education, feeding & sustainable projects
Changing Lives Malawi is a registered charity run by a group of committed volunteers in Central Scotland. Working with our partners in rural northern Malawi, we are supporting a community towards self-sufficiency and sustainability. There are 500 orphans and other vulnerable children walking long distances to the weekly Feeding Programme. They receive a nutritious cooked meal which is their biggest meal of the week. There are no charities feeding children in schools in that area of Malawi. Bright Futures Nursery was built for up to 100 children to attend 5 days a week and each has a cup of porridge at each session. This is a big cost and we would love help with providing for these malnourished children to give them a better start in life. Bright Futures Secondary School is a small private secondary school which was built for teenagers, living in extreme poverty, who wouldn't otherwise have had the opportunity of secondary school. They receive uniform, stationery and everything they need for school as well as a nutritious lunch each day. This is their only meal of the day and they couldn't concentrate on their studies without it. Each teenager needs a sponsor to help with the cost of their education, could that be you? As well as their learning in the classroom, students are growing their own fruit and vegetables, learning to care for chickens and pigs and having carpentry and sewing lessons so they have skills for life. Some of them are learning to play the keyboard. All love playing football, netball and we facilitated the introduction of touch rugby to the north of Malawi which is proving to be very successful. Our School Literacy Project puts boxes of preloved books that we collect into primary schools and is helping children become confident readers.
