There are 500 orphans attending the weekly feeding programme in rural northern Malawi. They are walking long distances to receive this one proper meal each week. As there are no big charities feeding children in primary schools in that area, all are hungry and most children are suffering from malnutrition. One meal a week is not enough, however we are trying to split our funds between feeding, education and helping to set up sustainable projects so that the community can eventually become self-sufficient.
They have started growing their own food, but their maize crop will only feed the children for two or three weeks. Everything else needs to be bought. Prices have been rising as there is a food crisis in Malawi. And now food is becoming scarce. We would like your help to buy more maize and rice, ahead of the rainy season, and ahead of prices rising even further.
In addition to the 500 children who attend the weekly feeding programme, we help to support Bright Futures Nursery where up to 100 pre school children attend for five sessions each week. They are fed a bowl of porridge made from maize and soya at each session. Again, this is a huge cost but, for their health they need us to continue feeding them. Will you help us continue feeding these very vulnerable children who all live in extreme poverty? Over the next few months their difficult lives will become more challenging as the rainy season begins. Huts are leaking, they have no mosquito nets, they sleep on the floor, huddled under a blanket (if they have one). They need us. Please spare what you can to help us continue feeding the 500.
