Zink helps families with food, housing, advice, and work coaching to tackle and prevent hardship.
Sometimes things go wrong. Health problems hit, jobs end, bills build up, depression sets in, things are overwhelming. Zink can provide emergency food parcels but that's not really enough. Families need more support to not only address the problems that caused hardship but to prevent them happening again. That's Zink three level pathway: 1) Emergency help with food, fuel, housing, advice; 2) Solve the Problem with advice and advocacy; 3) Create a Better Future with work coaching, wellbeing activities, friendship and good food in Zink's community eco-cafe. Everyone and every circumstance is different so Zink works at a pace that suits the individual family. We don't do things for or at people, they are involved in the process and we coach as much as possible. This means next time something goes wrong they are more likely to manage it themselves. Many of our 100+ volunteers are receiving or have received support from Zink; it's not nice having to rely on charitable support, this is a way of giving back as well as building up skills, generating friendships and starting again.
2023: 1800 food parcels issued, 400 families supported with general or energy advice, 150 supported towards work, over ten tonnes of surplus food saved from being wasted, 250 people a week attend wellbeing sessions.
