A Cambridgeshire Community Foundation managed Fund -'Encouraging Sport for Everyone'
John Stewart strongly believed in the importance of sport for a happy healthy and fulfilled life, even when increasingly disabled by the prostate cancer that took his life.
Why the community needs usThe aim of this Fund is to help others, particularly the reluctant, disabled and disadvantaged to discover and benefit from the pleasures of sport. The Fund also assists those who, due to sudden illness or disability, need additional support to enable them participate in the sports they previously enjoyed, or to discover new activities.
Our impact on the communityOne recent grant has been used to purchase an adaptive bike 'Tom Cat Trike' that enables a young person with a disability to learn to cycle skills with the possibility of eventually riding independently. The bike is available at the Sunday fortnightly morning sessions and is used by young people attending who face a range of disabilities from physical disabilities, visual impairment, and autism.
