We promote equality, diversity and social inclusion in North Devon. We work in our community to encourage strong connections and eliminate discrimination.
Sunrise is a grassroots charity promoting equality, diversity and social inclusion in rural communities in Northern Devon. We work with the community to eliminate discrimination and promote strong, positive community relations through our range of services and activities, which challenge discrimination, help change attitudes and celebrate diversity.
We want Devon to be a truly inclusive, welcoming community where individuals voices are heard and listened to, diversity is celebrated and there is equity of access to services and opportunities for all individuals with diverse identities.Structural inequalities are evident throughout the country and in our rural area of Northern Devon- we know there is a need for people to connect again.
We are always looking at how we can work with communities to change attitudes and improve inclusion and cohesion. We have experience of providing a range of learning, sharing, talking and engagement opportunities, which promote inclusion, diversity, and address racism, homo/transphobia and discrimination.
The difference we make
…"they are doing a good job, people are helpful. All the time if I need it or if someone I know needs help they are helping. If you were to say rate from 1 to 5 stars I'd give them 6. I feel protected and safe knowing they are there”.
We supported a woman with two children who had arrived in the UK through a period of hardship. We helped her to get a fridge and cooker. At first, she was depending on typing translations on her phone to communicate with us, she is now attending English classes regularly.
We can’t put a price on people feeling connected, supported, and getting the help they need. We want to make sure people from diverse backgrounds are supported, celebrated, and experience fairness and equality.
