We are running our first ever 10k race on behalf of a wonderful charity that is very close to our hearts.
Our daughter Jaimie is 11 years old and has Down syndrome. Whilst she is very able and is just as strong willed and sassy as any other 11 year old, she still needs a lot of support.
21plus do a-lot to support people with Down syndrome in the local community. They offer training to school staff, speech and language support for children, educational and social activities for families, trips including residentials for young people and exposure to some brilliant opportunities.
Until this year, neither of us were runners. Actually, I couldn’t run at all without being out of breath and getting a stitch. After completing the couch to 5k programme, we started doing parkruns together. Still, I am yet to run as far as 10k and Steve has only run that far for practice-never at an event.
Any money raised will go directly to 21plus and will be gratefully appreciated. There’s no target, no pressure. We’re running this regardless and have paid the entrance fee which will not be recouped from donations. Hopefully we can support a great cause as we do it! 🥰🥰
