This July, I'm cycling across northern and central France — from the Channel coast to Lorraine — retracing the footsteps of Joan of Arc. It will be 2 years since we unexpectedly lost Nigel, my beloved husband and incredible father to our 2 boys to a brain aneurysm. Since such a tragic event, I have found much comfort and strength in riding my bike and striving to complete journeys that help me to find a place of gratitude, joy and faith. This year I am chasing the steps of this incredible young woman, who against all the odds changed the course of history. Joan has been a hero of mine for her courage, bravery and faith.
I am taking the opportunity to also raise much needed funds to HBA - Hereditary Brain Aneurysm, an incredible charity that has supported me and my family through this journey and works incredibly hard to raise awareness, advocate for better screening and care to people affected by such an unforeseen event.
The journey begins in Dover, with a ferry crossing to Calais and a train onward to Rouen, Normandy — the city where Joan's story tragically ended. Burned at the stake in 1431 at just 19 years old.
Every contribution — big or small — helps get me across the finish line in Neufchâteau.
Thank you for being part of the journey!
