Harshita Brella was a 24-year-old Indian woman who moved to the UK in April 2024 after marrying Pankaj Lamba. She lived in Corby, Northamptonshire. Her story has become both a devastating case of domestic abuse and murder, and a major question about whether the authorities did enough to protect a woman who had already sought help.
Harshita was born in Delhi and came to the UK in April 2024 after her marriage to Lamba. Her family have described her as a studious young woman who was excited about starting a new life in Britain.
But according to her family and subsequent police investigations, her marriage was not a happy one. In August 2024, Harshita reported domestic abuse to Northamptonshire Police. Lamba was arrested on 3 September 2024, released on police bail with conditions not to contact her, and a Domestic Violence Protection Order was made.
Police believe Harshita was murdered in Corby on the evening of Sunday 10 November 2024.
Her husband, Panka Lamba has since been charged with the murder. Police believe he fled the UK after the killing.
Harshita's sister, Sonia and her parents want to see more international co-operation to bring Pankaj Lamba back to the UK to face the Crown Prosecution Service charges. For this to happen they need to come to the UK to speak to Home office and Foreign and Commonwealth office representatives.
Please donate to support our paying for the cost of the air tickets and their accomodation in the UK over the course of their visit. They hope to come to the UK in November 2026 to mark the second anniversary of Harshita's death and to launch a campaign in the House of Commons with press and MP's to increase the momentum to bring Pankaj Lamba into custody.
