I'm doing a marathon-length run in solidarity with those fighting for dignity in the Hostile Environment. The run will raise money for the GM Migrant Destitution Fund (MDF).
MDF provides cash grants to people forced into destitution by their immigration status. The grants promote wellbeing and dignity for those living at the hard edge of the Hostile Environment. The fund is currently paused for replenishment, but is reopening on 1st October. Every penny raised will go direct to those who need it most.
The run will be 26 miles.
26 years is the longest period someone accessing the fund reported being destitute - 26 years banned from working or accessing any kind of safety net.
This is unjust and dehumanising - this fund shouldn't have to exist. We shouldn't have to be fundraising so people can meet their most basic needs. Follow MDF on X @MigrantFundGM for updates about the fund and partners' campaigning to #EndDestitution.
NOTE: This isn't an event, just a personal challenge, so I don't have a fixed date. I will do it one weekend in September, exact date depending on rain/heat etc. UPDATE 7/9/24: Completed this run in 3hrs43minutes.
