My husband Michael has Parkinson’s. When he was first diagnosed it was a shock, and the things you enjoy and take for granted start to change. Strength is an important part of helping to maintain movement and mobility.
The SAW Parkinson’s Strength sessions have been a game changer for us. No one wants to be part of a ‘Parkinson’s group’, but these sessions have improved Michael’s balance and mobility and given him a real sense of purpose.
The sessions are delivered by qualified coaches, supported by volunteers, and demand continues to grow.
On 4 October, I’ll be running the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise funds for the SAW Parkinson’s Strength community in Pembrokeshire.
I’m certainly not a seasoned runner! I only started 12 months ago with 5k parkruns and I’m definitely the wrong side of 50, but I’ve stuck to a training plan and recently completed my first 10-mile run. I now have the belief that I can do this!
I’m definitely a tortoise rather than a hare, but my goal is to complete it within two and a half hours.
Any donation, however small, would be hugely appreciated and will help SAW continue to provide these sessions for people living with Parkinson’s.
Please also share the page with anyone who may like to support us or could benefit from the sessions.
Thank you,
Wendy
