The Community Wellbeing Garden: food and therapeutic projects grown by the community for the community of Petworth. https://communitywellbeinggarden.org
We provide an accessible, non-judgemental, supportive environment that celebrates people's abilities - bringing together local people with disabilities, physical & mental health challenges and low incomes, in our wheelchair accessible community garden. https://communitywellbeinggarden.org
Our weekly sessions:
Harvest Food Boxes: delivering weekly free fresh fruit and veg to families at risk of food poverty. £4 per month pays for a food box
Thriving Thursdays: a quiet supported environment enabling people with mental health support needs to enjoy the social, health & wellbeing benefits of therapeutic horticulture, using the garden to nurture recovery. £40 per month provides a group session for someone in need of support
Men's Shed: our garden workshop offers supported woodwork and rural craft sessions tailored for retired, vulnerable, disabled, unemployed or isolated men of all ages and abilities, building friendship, skills and self-esteem. £30 per month supports the mental health and wellbeing of a member
Learn & Grow: inclusive group for all ages and abilities, offering supported organic gardening & free fresh produce, tailored to members with learning or physical disabilities, additional needs, who are neurodivergent, or have mental and physical health challenges. £100 per month supports a person's participation across the year
The need
Despite Petworth's affluent reputation, the town continues to rank as an area of rural deprivation with a significant divide between the wealthiest and poorest. Many low-income households use the food bank and find support services are limited for those with health and other support needs.
Our impact
Our community projects enable people to:
Take gentle steps back into the community in a friendly group and reduce isolation
Increase mental health & wellbeing, confidence and social support networks
Learn new skills, take steps back into work, give back by volunteering
Take home free, fresh organic fruit and veg
