The Social Action Hub is expanding its Social Supermarket™, a lifeline for families in Rainworth and Blidworth facing food poverty. Since 2017, we’ve provided affordable groceries, reducing food waste and insecurity.

For just £4.50, members receive over £45 worth of essentials, including fresh produce, baby supplies, and pet food. Last year, we redistributed 135.3 tonnes of food, saving it from landfill and preventing 67.65 tonnes of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to taking 14 cars off the road for a year.

However, demand has tripled in 18 months due to the cost-of-living crisis. Our current space is too small, limiting us to 3 shoppers at a time and just 3 days a week. We’re now renting off-site storage and turning people away.

We’re raising £35,560 to relocate to a larger, accessible unit in Rainworth. This will allow us to:

• Open 6 days a week, including evenings, helping working families.

• Reduce waiting times and serve more people with dignity.

• Launch a School Uniform Exchange, easing financial pressures.

• Create 2 new jobs and 10 volunteering roles.

• Save 135,000 tonnes of food waste annually, further reducing our environmental impact.
